Dr. Vaughn's Devotional Message: May 07, 2008

Reflections on the Way
Vol. III, No.17

Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2: 3-4)

Red does not appear on our liturgical calendar very often. But this week is an exception.

Sunday is Pentecost. We remember how the Holy Spirit blew into Jerusalem and created a new community of brothers and sisters. We call this peculiar community the church.

The world has never been the same.

So, if you are able, wear red this Sunday to worship. It’s the color of flame. It’s the color of new life. It’s the color of the church.

And if you feel a breeze during the service, it might be the air condition system kicking it. It might be that the windows have been opened.

Or, it might just be that God is visiting us anew.

Grace and peace,

Patrick
