Paoli Presbyterian Church
Staff Transition Report

During the congregational meeting on October 30, a report of the PPC Staff Transition Team was shared. This report completed the work of the Session commissioned team asked to study staffing needs upon the retirement of Jim Churchill in 2012.

The team began its work by reviewing the 2008 Acts2Action report jointly produced by the congregation and leadership which acknowledged the heritage of PPC and provided vision for future ministry and staffing. This document informed the new pastor search process of 2009-2010 and was reaffirmed by Session in the Spring of 2011. At the conclusion of its work, the Staff Transition Team proposals include:

  • Changing the Business Administrator position to a pastoral position for administration (Jonathan Mikesell is currently ordained in The Wesleyan Church and is beginning dialogue with the CPM of Donegal about transferring his credentials to the PCUSA.)
  • Adding time and responsibility in adult education to the current Director of Childrens Ministries
  • Hiring an Associate Pastor of Mission and Ministry (the position will be 50% local and global mission work and 50% ministry supervision over Christian Education, Fellowship and Evangelism)
  • Hiring an Associate Pastor of Young Adults and Young Families (this position will have a strong outreach element to the missing generation in the church).
As the plan was being prepared for presentation to Session in September, with a design to stagger the positions as funding became available, the committee was made aware of a substantial gift allowing immediate implementation. At its September meeting, Session affirmed the plan. After giving approval of the plan, Session was informed of the special financial gift. The same timing was implemented in the presentation to the congregation on October 30. At each stage of discussion, clear affirmation of the concept was received before the financing was shared. The congregation approved a motion allowing for beginning the process of filling the two new Associate Pastor positions. Upon implementation of this plan, the church staff organization chart will look as follows:
